ABOUT

MATTHEW HEATON

Have you felt like you are the person who does not stand out like majority of the people in the room do? Almost like you do not necessarily belong.

I know the feeling and have had the thoughts of do I measure up and does what I have to say have merit or weight. I would like to encourage you that we all have something to say, and it requires us as leaders, and others to play their role in the big picture for innovation to happen, and history to be made.

Let me introduce myself.

My name is Matthew, and this is my personal website. It will be focused on “building people”.
My belief is to build people, they, in turn, build communities and establish a culture.
I will be talking about faith, business, and community.

My goal is to provide inspiring content that will help you, challenge you, and equip you to succeed personally, and professionally. If you can build people, a community, or yourself, then this is the place for you.

I have worked in a community environment for over nine years within secular, and full-time ministry atmospheres. I began at Texas Bible Institute as a second-year Resident Assistant over thirty-six guys using leadership, building community, maintaining order, and resting in peace. Two years after I had been working in full-time ministry at Young Believer’s Broadcast creating media content for their thirty-minute TV show that reached twenty million viewers every week at the time.

After those two years I stepped into a role that ultimately I was not qualified nor did I have the experience, or education as the external operations manager over the ministries thousand-acre campus that held over fifty plus buildings, a ministry of helps team of 50+, and plenty of landscaping to upkeep.

During this role for the first year from 2014 - 15 This is where I began to innovate on how to build people, so that community would begin to grow, which helped establish a culture for everyone to succeed in their role, and responsibilities while keeping two hundred students during the school year, and up to a thousand campers during the summer camps. From 2015-17 I was given more responsibility over the internal operations of the ministry which consisted of students and full-time staff members.

In August 2017 I transitioned out of full-time ministry and moved to Waco, TX off a prayer. When I moved to Waco in August, I had a friend I knew from bible school who lived here. He knew of my desire to own my own business one day and knew I was attempting to start making videos for businesses. From there he introduced me to a weekly event held in town for entrepreneurs with free coffee. It is hard to resist free coffee especially when I love mine black.

After attending 1 Million Cups for a year and serving the organizers with anything they needed help with, I was invited to continue building the Waco community as Lead Organizer in October of 2018. Since then our community has seen growth in attendance averaging 30-40 people in person every week, from business owners, startups, non-profits, presenting the story of their journey. It is one of the most inspiring moments to see your community starting to establish a culture.

I have been married to my wife, Denae ( follow her on Instagram @denaeheaton)for two and a half years. We live in Waco, TX. We have two husky fur babies named Amari (a girl.)& Simba ( a boy.). I am number 5 of 6 boys out of my family. Growing up I would always imagine us being seal team six. I enjoy laughing, football, coffee, conversations, and walking. Denae and I have attended Antioch Community Church since we have lived in Waco.
